BSAA is prepared to advocate for seniors on issues that directly affect them. When warranted, we will be a voice for a particular cause, policy or recommendation.
Frail and isolated seniors in the community often have multiple issues that put them at risk.
These issues may include:
- Limited resources
- Social isolation
- Terminal illnesses
- Changing living situation
- Loss of health, partners, independence or dignity
- Access to affordable housing
- Unsafe living conditions
Many seniors are not aware of what services, pensions or grants are available to them or how to access them. Even when the knowledge is provided, they are often unable to begin and/or complete the process independently.
Service Coordinators of The Way In (formally Outreach Services) from carya (formerly Calgary Family Services) assess each situation and then provide the individual and/or their family or friends with the appropriate information, referrals, support or advocacy required.
